Heroes lost the desperate housewives

Now that for sure caught your attention. But it ain’t that big a thing for me because this is a part of my daily life. Before you get it completely wrong, these are the names of the biggest and the most successful tv series running across US in the recent times. I’m into the 3rd season of Lost, the 2nd of Heroes and the first season of Desperate housewives.

For the people who have seen these, i was wondering how would these look on the Indian channels, Indian style. Produced by Balaji telefilms, cast from the Saas – bahu soap operas, in Ekta’s version its not hard to imagine the passengers from a crashed plane on a remote island and still the actresses have atleast 5 tons of precious metal, silk sarees and not to forget a few cm of makeup on them. For every single dialogue delivered, the actor turns thrice towards the camera supported in the background by something banging some kind of a drum, irrespective of it being a surprise, tragedy or a scene on some sad situation.

Ekta kapoor should give a serious thought to this idea of having a saas-bahu series on a remote island. As it is there is not much difference between the different tv series in India in terms of the sets, makeup and the story. Moreover, the size of the family in the story can easily tilt the results of the national elections by casting votes for a particular party. So one family, all seven generations, 65000 episodes, should make an interesting story. The only problem might be that of aliens taking over earth by then.

Actually on second thoughts, the Indian version would just about do well on Desperate housewives, obviously minus the cheesy scenes. Actually i would rather call ‘Desperate housewives’ the American version of bahu series:-)…Bad luck for Saas’, Americans usually do not live with their in-laws.

We ain’t that far behind the Heroes series too. So what if Heroes is the biggest thing to have happened in the recent times on the American small screen. So what its a big hit across the world. We have one hero to rule them all. Shaktimaan!!!

On a serious note, would any of us travelling to the states, ever get bored of the programmes on television there and think differently about the Indian small screen?? Well if that happens to you, whenever that is, you can always watch the episode no. 2000 or 3000 of “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi”. ;)

    Excellent article.Well written.. Hats off!!!
But one request, kindly dont give any ideas to Ekta ji.As it is, I cant stand these serials. Because of these never ending serials, many women folks have forgotten the meaning of cooking. At this rate, looks like, Kyunki saas bhi (whatever), could be called as, “Kyunki saas ki bahu bhi saas ho gayi”…
